In the world of insurance, you may encounter terms such as basic coverage, broad coverage, and special coverage.

Providing protection for specific damages, basic coverage is the most basic type of insurance. It does not cover much…it's basic. There is only a limited list of claims that are covered, including:

  • Fire

  • Lightning

  • Windstorm or Hail

  • Explosion

  • Smoke

  • Vandalism

  • Aircraft or Vehicle Collision

  • Riot or Civil Commotion

Insurance carriers will not pay claims if the damage doesn't meet this list.

Broad coverage provides better coverage than basic, but it is still limited. Like basic coverage the insurance carrier will only pay the claim if the damage was the result of…

  • Burglary/Break-in damage

  • Falling Objects (like tree limbs)

  • Weight of Ice and Snow

  • Freezing of Plumbing

  • Accidental Water Damage

With special coverage, almost everything is covered, unless it is explicitly excluded from the policy. It's like having an "all-in-one" insurance plan. Some examples of damage that is not covered are:

  • Surface Water

  • Termites

  • Rodents

  • And more
